A blog?

And I should post to it? What a novel idea.

Let's see, I have assorted minor news -- first and foremost, I think I'm sounding like my father more and more often. At least I'm not growing a beard yet.

John and I have been in Oregon six years now. We've been married ten years. We celebrated by staying home and working on our usual projects, and then eating dinner at the local Mexican restaurant with a grouchy child. With luck we'll go out somewhere snazzier next week. Or at least somewhere with a more varied set of food choices. John mowed, and found we have a yard under the sea of grass seeds growing in the center of the rose bushes. We watered garden plants, and found that the strawberries are beginning to set berries. Blueberries are flowering, and raspberries are leafing out. I inspected my bees and determined that they are doing fine despite my benign neglect, but I really need to stop neglecting them if I want to get honey this year.

On dogs, Andy has managed to continue to behave like a dog on occasion, which is entertaining. I think Cosmo is giving him lessons. They spent some time hunting mystery smells in the tall unmowed grass yesterday, and also each found a spot and bedded down where they could see but not be seen. Oh, and Cosmo is off leash! He is getting the idea that we carry good treats in our pockets, so it is worth coming if we call, and that this is a reasonable place to stick close to. I'm also thinking that his "husky" could also be "border collie" from the great interest he has in observing the sheep and goats. Cosmo also had an owie tooth removed on Thursday, and Andy is on his way to being without worms. Both dogs are on heartworm prevention meds too.

I've continued to wonder about the background of both dogs. It's been suggested that Andy may have simply not been out much, but I know that's not the case at his foster home. He was very interested in my bee hives, and not at all intimidated by them, which made me wonder if he'd never met a stinging buzzing bug before. The bees are pretty gentle, if you aren't attacking them, so it wasn't a problem. Although he considered hiking a leg on the hives, which neither the bees nor I will be overjoyed about. Cosmo had no problem being around the bees, but didn't feel the need to be as close to the hives as Andy was. John keeps marveling over having two dogs that he actually likes. Logan, on the other hand, believes that while Andy is Her Dog tm, she also needs a puppy. All we've said so far is "no" and "not yet", but until she's a good bit older the true answer is "No way in hell!!!" :-)

We went to Adrian's second birthday party on Saturday. (It was great fun!) While driving there I worked on composing an invitation to our house un-warming party (warming it after a fire didn't seem to make sense.) I'm posting it here for constructive criticism, but any of you reading are welcome to attend if you'd like to. If you're local you'll also get a paper invitation, once we finalize the wording.

John, Penelope and Miss Logan are having a
Finally Settled Back Into Our New House party
We moved in 1 3/4 years ago.
We had a fire in our (detached) laundry room 1 ½ years ago.
We had the big fire in the house 1 ¼ years ago.
We lived in the laundry room shed for ten months and ten days.
We moved back in to the house three months ago.
And we're finally feeling settled!

Please join us Saturday June 11,
From 2 PM on
For a summer house & garden celebration.
If you can, please bring a side dish to share (and/or grill)
(and list ingredients for those with food allergies and dietary considerations)
Phone for directions: XXX-XXX-XXXX
There is plenty of space for running children and well mannered dogs.

John suggests the time could be something like 12-12, while I am undecided. Please give me your feedback.

I think that I would love to be there! I don't think I can, though. I hope you have a lovely party and post lots of pictures. And also -- wow, ten years? That must mean my ten year anniversary is coming up. I suspect I will spend it much as you spent yours. XXOO

Congratulations on your 10 yr wedding anniversary. When I recall your wedding I still get goosebumps. Your wedding was probably the lovliest I've ever been too, and I still want to know how you got those butterflies to fly around the bouquets on que! May you revel in many more decades together. Love C-A

I couldn't figure out how you had been married 10 years not 11, because I was really thinking you were married the spring after we were. But no, that August you came here so okay, I think I have the timeline back in place.

I'll be at the unwarming with bells on. Perhaps you should request that everyone bring frozen foods. Joana

Did I say happy anniversary to you yet? I feel like I missed it.

And I am jealous of your strawberries.

Hi Pirate, I think you did elsewhere, but I'm not certain. :-) It did pass -- may 1. I"m sure I mentioned it somewhere. I'll take it as given if you'd like.
